Sickle Cell Patient & Bone Marrow Transplant Survivor, Gabriel Dubos, 16, Has Learned to Successfully Manage His Condition Through One of the Region's Only Pediatric Stroke Centers

At 3-years-old, Gabriel Dubos, had already been hospitalized four times. That's one more time than he had even celebrated his birthday. He was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia as a newborn. From the beginning he was hospitalized for multiple infections and needed chronic blood transfusions, because of his abnormal blood vessels. This was too much and doctors knew he would need a bone marrow transplant. Luckily, one of his sisters was a match, and after leading follow-up and psychosocial care, Gabriel gets to spend more time at the Jonathan Jaques Children's Cancer Center as a volunteer, than as a patient.
